SC grants anticipatory bail to Umar Ansari in model code violation case

New Delhi, May 6 , 2024 : The Supreme Court on Monday granted anticipatory bail to Umar Ansari, son of gangster-turned-politician Late Mukhtar Ansari, in a model code violation case. It was alleged that Ansari along with other accused threatened the District Mau Administration and violated the model code of conduct during the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly Polls. Ansari approached the Supreme Court against the decision of the Allahabad High Court which had refused to grant anticipatory bail to him. The matter pertains to a First Information Report (FIR) lodged against Abbas Ansari, Suheldev Bhartiya Samaj Party candidate from Mau Sadar seat, Umar Abbas Ansari (the present appellant), organizer Mansoor Ahmad Ansari and 150 unknown people. The allegation against them was that on March 3, 2022, the accused, including Umar Abbas Ansari threatened the District Mau Administration and violated the model code of conduct. The FIR was registered under Sections 171-F 9 ( Punishment for undue influence or personation at an election), 186 (obstructing any public servant in the discharge of his duty), Section 189
(Threat of injury to any public servant.
