Haryana Elections: Voting Underway Across the State for Assembly Seats

Haryana : In Haryana, voting is currently underway for the single-phase Assembly Elections across 90 constituencies, with polling scheduled to close at 6 PM. As of 11 AM, a voter turnout of 22.70 percent had been recorded, reflecting active participation in the early hours of the election. The polls, which began at 7 AM, will determine the fate of 1,031 candidates contesting for legislative seats.

The election process in Haryana is expected to engage over two crore, three lakh eligible voters, with substantial preparations in place to ensure a smooth and transparent voting experience. To facilitate this, a total of 20,632 polling stations have been set up throughout the state, equipped with robust security measures to prevent any disruptions. Chief Electoral Officer Pankaj Agarwal assured that all polling stations have been secured, with comprehensive security deployments in place, including personnel from the police and paramilitary forces.

Additionally, webcasting facilities have been arranged at numerous polling stations to monitor activities in real-time, providing an extra layer of transparency. These measures are aimed at ensuring free, fair, and smooth voting, which is crucial for maintaining public confidence in the electoral process. The election authorities have also made provisions for COVID-19 safety protocols and accessibility measures for elderly and differently-abled voters, ensuring everyone can exercise their democratic right.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a social media post, called upon the people of Haryana to come out in large numbers and participate in what he described as a “festival of democracy.” He also extended his best wishes to young voters in the state, many of whom are casting their votes for the first time. Modi encouraged them to take pride in exercising their franchise and contributing to the shaping of Haryana’s future.

As the voting continues throughout the day, political observers are closely watching to see how different factors, including key issues like development, unemployment, law and order, and farm policies, influence voter turnout and preferences. Major political parties, including the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Indian National Congress (INC), and regional players such as the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) and Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), are vying for power in a highly competitive political landscape.

The outcome of the elections will be critical for Haryana’s political trajectory, with the ruling party and opposition hopefuls both striving to secure a majority. As the polls continue, authorities are urging citizens to exercise their voting rights responsibly and help ensure a peaceful and fair election process.
