Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal Refuses Third Summons from ED in Delhi Excise Policy Case

New Delhi, January 03,2024 – In a continuing saga, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has opted to disregard the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) summons for the third time regarding the Delhi Excise Policy case. The development was confirmed by Delhi Health Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Saurabh Bharadwaj during a press conference.

Bharadwaj categorically labeled the ED summons as both illegal and politically motivated. He questioned the timing of the notice, insinuating that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) might be using the ED strategically to hinder Kejriwal’s political campaigning as Lok Sabha elections draw near.

During the press conference, Bharadwaj emphasized that Kejriwal holds neither the status of an accused nor a witness in the ongoing case. He expressed concern over the lack of concrete evidence against Kejriwal, referencing the year-long imprisonment of Manish Sisodia, another prominent AAP member, without substantive proof.

Accusing the BJP of leveraging investigative agencies for political gains, Bharadwaj pointed out instances where corruption charges against opposition leaders, such as Suvendu Adhikari, Pema Khandu, Ajit Pawar, Narayan Rane, and Praful Patel, were reportedly dropped upon joining the BJP.

It is noteworthy that Kejriwal had previously declined to appear before the ED on November 2 and December 21 of the preceding year. The political standoff continues to raise questions about the impartiality of investigative agencies and their role in targeting opposition figures.
