Shri Dattatreya was speaking as the chief guest at the ‘National Conference on Artificial Intelligence: Legal Implications and Challenges” at Dr. BR Ambedkar International Center in New Delhi on Saturday. In this program, Union Minister of State for Law and Justice, Parliamentary Affairs and Culture Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal, Supreme Court Justice Shri Rajesh Bindal, Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra, Chairman of Law Commission of India Shri Rituraj Awasthi, Dr. BR Ambedkar National Law University Vice Chancellor Dr. Archana Mishra, Dean Academic Affairs Dr. Ashutosh also expressed their views. , Haryana’s Governor Shri Bandaru Dattatreya also released a book on this occasion.

He said that with the advent of human civilization and the rising need to bring order and stability in the society, law has always been a fulcrum based on which the society grows and evolves. Similar is the case with artificial intelligence as such a boon of human kind can become a crusading bane if legislation or a statute in the form of regulatory framework is not carved upon.
He said that for such reasons time has arrived that various stakeholders and the Parliament must come forward by bringing in comprehensive legislation which will act as a regulatory framework and will assist human kind in understanding the true benefits and practicalities of AI. He hoped that the deliberations in the conference will be able to transverse ideas of experts and achieve a global and pivotal way towards better understanding and realisation of positive artificial intelligence.
Sh Dattatreya said that the legal implications of Artificial Intelligence are multifaceted and evolving as the technology advances. The integration of Artificial intelligence into numerous sectors of society has brought forth a spectrum of legal and ethical consequences that deserve careful study. From a legal standpoint, problems around liability and accountability are crucial. In light of the growing autonomy of AI systems, concerns have been raised about accountability in the event of malfunctions or unexpected outcomes.
He said that to explicitly identify liability, the current legal system may need to change, particularly in situations where AI choices result in Legal injuries or legal issues. Moreover, privacy, transparency, and bias are among the ethical issues raised by AI. When AI is used, massive volumes of personal data are frequently processed, which raises concerns about how people’s right to privacy to be protected. Deploying AI ethically requires finding a balance between protecting privacy and utilising the benefits of AI.
Concerns about the accountability of decision making processes are also raised by the opaque nature of some AI algorithms, especially when AI is used in crucial fields like criminal justice, healthcare, or finance, Sh Dattatreya added.
