Bopanna-Ebden secure straight-set win in Italian Open

Rome, May 14 , 2024 : Following a string of disappointing exits from ATP Masters events in Monte-Carlo and Madrid, the doubles pairing of Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden found redemption as they commenced their campaign in the Italian Open 2024 with a resounding straight-set triumph over Italian duo Matteo Arnaldi and Francesco Passaro on Tuesday. Bopanna and Ebden, erstwhile World No. 1 doubles partners, endured a challenging month after early eliminations in their previous two tournaments. However, the Indo-Australian tandem displayed their mettle by vanquishing Arnaldi and Passaro with a commanding 6-2, 6-2 victory, consummated in just 52 minutes. Capitalising on their form, the duo seized four out of six break-point opportunities while staunchly denying their opponents any chance to convert the three break-point chances they encountered. In the upcoming second-round clash, the 2024 Miami Open champions are slated to lock horns with another Italian pair, Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori. Bolelli and Vavassori secured their progression by overcoming Christopher Eubanks and John Peers in a gripping 82-minute encounter, triumphing with a scoreline of 7-6(4), 6-3.
