New Delhi, December 3, 2023 – In a resounding victory, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, secured triumphs in the Hindi heartland states of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh, further bolstering its prospects for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The Congress party, which faced significant setbacks in these crucial states, found solace in the acquisition of Telangana from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).
According to the latest data from the Election Commission of India (ECI) website, the BJP secured an impressive lead, winning or leading on 164 seats in Madhya Pradesh, 55 seats in Chhattisgarh, and 115 seats in Rajasthan as of 7 pm. The Congress, on the other hand, faced resounding defeats, managing to secure only 64 seats across these states. In Telangana, the Congress emerged victorious with 64 seats, outperforming the BRS, which secured 39 seats.
Prime Minister Modi, buoyed by the BJP’s success, expressed confidence that the current trend would continue in the forthcoming elections. In a post on, he stated, “The results in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan indicate that the people of India are firmly with the politics of good governance and development.”
Despite the disappointing outcomes for the Congress, party president Mallikarjun Kharge affirmed their commitment to overcoming setbacks and preparing for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. “We will overcome temporary setbacks and prepare ourselves fully for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections along with the ‘INDIA’ parties,” Kharge stated in his post.
Contrary to some exit polls, which predicted a Congress win in Chhattisgarh and a close fight in Rajasthan, the actual results showcased a significant BJP sweep. The Congress party’s extensive offerings of sops and welfare measures, along with the Caste census issue, failed to sway voters in their favor.
Madhya Pradesh emerged as the most substantial victory for the BJP, with incumbent Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan establishing himself as the undisputed leader of the state. The BJP’s strategic decision to field several MPs and Ministers in Madhya Pradesh, seen by political analysts as an attempt to curtail Chouhan’s influence, did not deter the overwhelming support for the party.
As the political landscape evolves, the Congress party has called for a meeting of the opposition bloc to strategize for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, scheduled for early next year.
