New Delhi, 1 April, 2024- In the league matches held on the second day of the All India Inter University Cricket (Men’s Category) Tournament being organized by Shri Jagdishprasad Jhabarmal Tibdewala University, Jhunjhunu under the aegis
Of Association of Indian Universities. Host University defeated KIIT University Bhubaneswar by 46 runs, while Sambalpur University defeated CSM University Kanpur by eight wickets. Whereas Lovely Professional University Phagwara lost its first match to Veer Bahadur Singh Purvanchal University, Jaunpur by 6 wickets.
Organizing Secretary of the Tournament, Dr. Arun Kumar is giving information here today. In Pool A, Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology deemed to be University (KIIT), Bhubaneswar won the toss first and invited the host Shri JJT University to bat. Openers Jatin Kadyan and Amit Dalal dominated the bowlers of KIIT University from the beginning and scored a century partnership and put 126 runs on the score board in 12 overs. After scoring 60 runs in 46 balls (6×2, 4×7), Amit Dalal got stumped by wicketkeeper Vishwajeet on the bowler Nitish. From the other end, Jatin Kadyan played a brilliant inning of 102* runs in 56 balls (6×8, 4×5) and scored his first century in the championship and helped his team score to 198 runs for 3 wickets in 20 overs. Chasing a big target, KIIT Bhubaneswar’s openers Prashant (5) and Rajesh (7) were dismissed by Sonu Chhikkara in two consecutive overs, putting the team on the back foot. KIIT’s wickets kept falling at regular intervals and the team could score only 152 runs in 20 overs and lost the match by 46 runs.
In the Pool B match, after losing the toss to Sambalpur University, the team of Chhatrapati Sahu Ji Maharaj University, Kanpur, batting first, scored 144 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs with the help of useful innings of Aman (32) and Utkarsh (25). For Sambalpur University, Sujal, Vaibhav and Rohit took 2 wickets each. Sambalpur University, chasing the target, won the match by eight wickets with the help of Sujal’s brilliant half-century (71 runs of 50 balls) and Mohammad Kaif’s 28 runs.
In the Pool C match, LPU Phagwara, after winning the toss , scored 114 runs after losing 9 wickets in 20 overs with the help of useful innings of Mayank (25) and Jasvir (18). From Jaunpur University, Amar Chaudhary took 3 wickets for 15 runs in 4 overs and Saurabh took 2 wickets for 2 runs in 1 over. VBSPU Jaunpur achieved the target by losing 4 wickets in 14 overs. Opener Trupiresh’s half-century inning (82 runs of 42 balls) studded with 5 sixes and 8 fours and won by 6 wickets.
