AAP general secretary Pankaj Gupta writes to Delhi Lieutenant Governor for meeting with AAP Leaders, MPs, and MLAs regarding water crisis

Pankaj Gupta, in his letter, highlights severe water crisis amid scorching heat wave in Delhi

NEW DELHI, 22 June , 2024 – To overcome the ongoing water crisis in the National Capital, Aam Aadmi Party General Secretary Shri Pankaj Gupta has sought an appointment with the Lieutenant Governor, Delhi to discuss the matter along with AAP senior leaders, including its MPs and MLAs.

In his letter to the Lieutenant Governor, Shri Pankaj Gupta has highlighted the problem faced by Delhiites as the Haryana government is not releasing Delhi’s entire share of water for the last few days. He has mentioned how the crisis has deepened with the increase in water demand due to the unprecedented heat wave.

The AAP general secretary wrote: “Delhi needs about 1005 million gallons (MGD) of water every day. Since Delhi is completely dependent on neighbouring states to meet its water needs, out of 1005 MGD water, Delhi should get 613 MGD water from Haryana, but it is getting less than 513 MGD water from Haryana. Delhi is getting 100 MGD less water from Haryana every day. Due to this, more than 28 lakh people of Delhi are not getting their share of water and there is a lot of chaos in Delhi for water.”

In his letter to the LG, Shri Pankaj Gupta mentioned that Delhi’s Water Minister Atishi talked to the Central and Haryana governments as well as the Himachal government for water. Himachal Pradesh is ready to give water, but that water has to come to Delhi through Haryana. The Haryana government even refused to do that. After this, the Delhi government went to the Supreme Court. Delhi government officials talked to the Haryana government, Water Minister Atishi wrote a letter to the Prime Minister, but even after all this, Haryana did not give water to Delhi. Hurt by the fact that Delhiites are not getting their full share of water, the water minister is sitting on an indefinite ‘Jal Satyagraha’ in Bhogal, Jangpura from June 21.

Urging the Lieutenant Governor to give them an audience, Shri Pankaj Gupta said all the MPs, MLAs and senior leaders of Aam Aadmi Party want to meet you regarding the issue of water as there is a serious water crisis in Delhi and Delhiites should get their share of water. “Therefore, we are seeking time to meet you to discuss this serious issue. You are requested to give us a suitable time to meet as soon as possible, so that the people of Delhi, who are facing severe water crisis, can get relief as soon as possible,” concluded AAP general secretary.
