30 Jan 2024– The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has issued Quality Control Orders for several products that impact consumer safety. These include electrical accessories, laboratory glassware, hinges, copper products, and door fittings. The Commerce and Industry Ministry said that it’s a reflection of the government’s commitment to develop a robust quality ecosystem in India.
The quality control orders or the QCOs are designed to enhance the quality standards of ‘Made in India’ products. These measures are part of a broader strategy to position India as a global leader in delivering high-quality and safety-compliant products. It is also aligned with the provisions outlined in the Technical Barriers to Trade Agreement of the World Trade Organisation (WTO)
