Droupadi Murmu graces at 111th Convocation of Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University

New Delhi, 02 December 2023– In a momentous event, the President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu, graced the 111th convocation of Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University at Nagpur, Maharashtra, today (December 2, 2023).

Addressing the gathering, President Murmu underscored the pivotal role of research and innovation in a nation’s development. She commended Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University for its commitment to fostering research, innovation, and technology development. Notably, faculty members of the university have received more than 60 patents from the Indian Patent Office, reflecting the institution’s dedication to pushing the boundaries of knowledge. President Murmu applauded the presence of an Incubation Center at the university, promoting a startup culture among students.

The President urged students and faculty to channel their research and innovation efforts towards addressing local issues, emphasizing the practical implementation of their ideas. Acknowledging the interconnectedness of the world, President Murmu encouraged Nagpur University to champion interdisciplinary studies and international collaboration, citing the collective response needed to tackle global challenges.

Discussing the role of technology, the President cautioned that, like any resource, it can be used for both benefit and harm. While acknowledging the positive impact of artificial intelligence on simplifying daily life, she raised concerns about its potential misuse, particularly in the form of Deepfake technology. President Murmu highlighted the importance of moral education in guiding responsible technological use.

Directing her advice to the graduating students, President Murmu emphasized that obtaining a formal degree is not the culmination of education. She urged them to remain curious and committed to continuous learning, especially in the face of rapid technological advancements. Stressing the students’ significance as assets to the nation and society, she reminded them that the future of India rests on their shoulders. In times of adversity, President Murmu encouraged them to face challenges with knowledge, self-confidence, maintaining connections with loved ones, and having faith in their abilities.
