Raipur, Dec 11, 2023– In a surprising turn of events, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Vishnu Deo Sai is set to assume the role of Chhattisgarh Chief Minister. The decision was finalized nine days after the BJP secured a resounding victory, winning 54 out of 90 seats and unseating the Congress in the state.
Vishnu Deo Sai, a prominent tribal face of the BJP, was elected as the leader of the BJP legislative party on Sunday. The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled to take place on December 13 in Raipur, and it is expected to be a significant event with the presence of dignitaries such as Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP President JP Nadda, and other top party leaders.
The newly appointed Chief Minister, Sai, expressed his commitment to fulfilling the BJP’s pre-poll promises, stating, “As chief minister, I will try to fulfill Modi’s guarantees. Sanctioning 18 lakh (1.8 million) houses to beneficiaries of the housing scheme will be the first thing to be done.”
The BJP’s victory saw them winning 17 out of the 29 reserved seats for scheduled tribes, a notable increase from the three seats secured in 2018. The decision to appoint Vishnu Deo Sai as the Chief Minister came after the BJP-appointed central observers, including Arjun Munda, Sarbananda Sonowal, and Dushyant Kumar Gautam, conducted a meeting with the newly elected party MLAs in Raipur.
This development marks a significant political transition in Chhattisgarh, and the swearing-in ceremony is expected to be closely watched by political observers and the public alike.
