New Delhi, February 20, 2024– In alignment with the unwavering commitment of the Government of India to combat the scourge of narcotics, a significant stride was made today in the relentless battle against illegal drugs. The Delhi Police, under the esteemed guidance of Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Shri Vinai Kumar Saxena, and the astute leadership of Commissioner of Police, Shri Sanjay Arora, executed a pivotal operation aimed at uprooting drug trafficking from the societal fabric.
At precisely 5:30 PM today, in a solemn ceremony graced by the esteemed presence of the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, a staggering 10631.745 kilograms of illegal drugs, valued at approximately ₹ 1600 crores in the international market, were meticulously destroyed as per prescribed protocols. The incineration took place at the designated facility located at SSI Industrial Area, GT Karnal Road, Near Jahangirpuri, Delhi.
This decisive action, a testament to the unwavering resolve of the Indian Government in its pursuit of a ‘Zero Tolerance’ policy against drugs, underscores the proactive measures undertaken by the Delhi Police to combat this nefarious trade. Ganja, heroin, charas, cocaine, Doda Post & Psychotropic Substance were among the prominent contrabands eradicated in today’s operation.
The meticulous execution of this operation adhered to the directives outlined by the Government of India, Ministry of Finance (Department of Revenue), and the mandates of the Hon’ble Supreme Court. Various committees constituted by the Delhi Police, spanning from 2009 to 2023, meticulously oversaw the disposal of illegal drugs recovered from drug smugglers, ensuring compliance with established legal frameworks.
Addl. Commissioner of Police (Crime), Delhi, Sanjay Bhatia, IPS, emphasized that such operations will persist in the future, reiterating the unwavering commitment of the Delhi Police to stamp out the menace of drugs from society.
