New Delhi, 18th February 2024– Delhi Traffic Police, as part of Delhi Police Week 2024 celebrations, organised a Prize Distribution and Commemorative Function of the Road Safety Club as well as the Felicitation of Active Traffic Sentinel App Users and Stakeholders Working for the Cause of Road Safety on Sunday, February 18, 2024, at Adarsh Auditorium, Police Headquarters, Jai Singh Road. Sh. HGS Dhaliwal, Spl. Commissioner of Police/Traffic, Zone 2, Delhi, graced the occasion as Chief Guest. Addl. CsP/Traffic Ms. Geeta Rani Verma IPS, Sh. Sathiyasundaram IPS, Sh. Dinesh Kumar Gupta IPS and DCsP/Traffic also graced the event. Sh. Shashank Jaiswal, IPS, DCP/Traffic- HQ & RSC meticulously oversaw every aspect of the event that celebrated and recognized the ambassadors of road safety. The program was attended by school principals, teachers, school/college students, parents, traffic sentinel app users, and stakeholders associated with Delhi Traffic Police in road safety endeavours.
Speaking on the occasion, Sh. HGS Dhaliwal, Spl. Commissioner of Police/Traffic, Zone 2, emphasized the importance of inculcating correct road user behaviour in the minds of youngsters and also called upon the school students and other members of the public to support the the Traffic Police in curbing traffic violations by enrolling themselves as Traffic Sentinel App users and reporting traffic violations that they happen to see while commuting. He stated that the public should come forward to actively support the Delhi Traffic Police as its eyes and ears.
The event was organised to felicitate winners of the road safety painting competitions held for school (primary, middle, and senior groups) and college students during the National Road Safety Month 2024, observed from January 15th to February 14th, 2024. In addition, two best schools making the maximum contribution towards spreading road safety awareness were awarded the rolling trophy and runner-up award respectively by the chief guest.
Every year, two top schools are chosen as part of the Road Safety Club project, and the top school receives a rolling trophy and a cash prize of Rs. 21000, while the runner-up school receives a trophy and a cash reward of Rs. 11,000/-. This year, DAV Public School Ashok Vihar was adjudged the best school, and ASN School Mayur Vihar was adjudged the runner-up.
On the occasion, Active Traffic Sentinel App users were also felicitated. The Traffic Sentinel app was launched in 2015 to empower citizens with a powerful tool to help traffic police book violators by capturing the violations they happen to see while on the road. Those who send the maximum number of violations earn and accumulate reward points on the basis of the nature and number of violations captured. Every year, during the Delhi Police Week celebrations, active sentinels are felicitated in recognition of the services rendered by them.
The stakeholders associated with Delhi Traffic Police, namely the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), Hero Motocorp, Zomato, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Ltd. (HMSI), Synergy, the Indian Head Injury Foundation, and the Value Life Foundation, who have been providing all sorts of infrastructural and logistic support in promoting road safety awareness and actively participating in our awareness campaigns, were also felicitated on the occasion.
