During his visit, from September 8-10, Rahul Gandhi will hold various meetings and events in Dallas and Washington, DC. These engagements include interactions at the University of Texas in Dallas and Georgetown University in Washington, DC, where Gandhi is expected to meet with students, academicians, and members of the Indian community. In addition, Gandhi will participate in discussions with think tanks, press members, and other influential figures during his time in Washington, DC. His visit, though not in an official capacity, offers an opportunity for Gandhi to connect with a broad spectrum of individuals and organizations in the US. Sam Pitroda, who is coordinating the visit, emphasized that this marks Rahul Gandhi’s first US visit since becoming the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha. Pitroda mentioned that the Congress leader will also meet technocrats and community leaders during a dinner event in Dallas and will address a large gathering of Indian community members. Pitroda stated that Gandhi’s trip is a response to the growing interest from the Indian diaspora, diplomats, academicians, and business leaders, eager to engage with the Congress leader. He also noted that the visit underscores the significant role that states governed by the Congress play in India’s international relations.
As Gandhi continues his US visit, it is anticipated that these interactions will contribute to deepening ties between India and the US and highlight the role of the Indian diaspora in fostering bilateral relationships.
