New Delhi, 24 January 2024– Education is the fundamental right of every child. Garima, a visionary girl from Mahendragarh with the thought that every child should get education, has connected more than 1 thousand children with education through “Sakshar Pathshala”. This achievement of Garima is also important because despite being visually impaired, she is awakening the spirit of education in the lives of other children. For his unique work, the President of India, Smt Draupadi Murmu has honored her with the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar 2024 in the social service category. 19 children from across the country were selected for this honour, Garima of Haryana is one of them. Alongwith other awardees, Garima will participate in the Republic Day parade at the national level on Kartavya Path, Delhi. This year, Garima is the only child from Haryana who has been given this honour.
Children will progress only when they get education
Haryana’s 9 year old Garima is a fourth class student from Navadi village in district Mahendragarh. Through her “Sakshar Pathshala” campaign, Garima is contacting slum children and their parents. She is making them aware of the importance of education. With the help of this campaign, Garima is giving the message that if she can get education despite being visually impaired, then why can’t other children. She explains the importance of education and says that education is very important. Education has the power to change your entire perception towards life. She impresses upon the children if you will study, then only you can excel. In her initial days of education, Garima had to face many challenges. Deprived children always remained in her mind. At that point of time ,she decided to reach to the deprived children. In this cause she got full support from her family. Garima’s father is a teacher by profession. Like her father, Garima wants to become a teacher and contribute to the society.
Garima’s courage and extraordinary efforts at a young age took her to where she is today
The Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar award is given for exceptional merits and outstanding achievements. These national level awards are given to children between 5 to 18 years of age. These awards are given in seven categories like bravery, culture, environment, art, science and technology, social service and sports. This time, 19 children from across the country have been honoured with these awards in different categories, who have shown extraordinary talent in their respective fields. Out of these, 4 children are in social service category, including Garima. Each award carries a medal, certificate and citation. It is Garima’s courage and extraordinary efforts at a young age that have taken her to where she is today.

Garima says that getting education is the fundamental right of every child. The Haryana government is running many schemes for the education of children so that not a single child of the state is deprived of this right. The unique initiative of Garima at such a young age is a matter of pride not only for the state but also for the country.
