Chhattisgarh State Power Company receives Four Awards for Outstanding Performance at Gare Palma Coal Mine

Raipur, January 24, 2024: The Central Mine Safety Directorate, under the aegis of the Government of India, has conferred consecutive top honors to Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Company Limited for outstanding performance, marking the second consecutive year of recognition. The accolades were presented for the year 2023 in the category of open-cast mines with a capacity ranging from 2 to 5 million tons. In addition to the overall best performance award, the Gare Palma Coal Mine received first prizes in three other categories: General Safety, Lighting System, and Dust Separation.

Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Company’s Chairman, Mr. P. Dayanand, congratulated the generation company’s team on this achievement. The awards were presented at the company’s headquarters in Dangania. The event saw the presence of Mr. S.K. Katiyar, Director of Operations, Mr. M.R. Bagde, Executive Director (Civil-Project-1), and Mr. D. Nath, Additional Chief Engineer (Civil-Mining Agent).

Notably, the annual safety review by the Mine Safety Directorate evaluates all coal blocks in Chhattisgarh, recognizing excellence in various categories. The awards were distributed at the Annual Safety Award Ceremony hosted at Deepka (Korba), organized jointly by the Mine Safety Directorate, South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), and private coal institutions. Mr. Prabhat Kumar, Director-General of Mine Safety, and Mr. PremSagar Mishra, CEO of SECL, graced the occasion as chief guests.

In the 2023 awards, Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Company secured top honors in four categories, demonstrating a commitment to safety and innovation. The company was awarded a cash prize of INR 25,000 for innovations in safety practices. Mr. Katiyar, the Director of Operations, highlighted the company’s consistent adherence to safety standards over the past five years, aiming for zero accidents and emphasizing sustainable mining practices.

Gare Palma Coal Mine, allocated to Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Company, has been engaged in open-cast mining operations since 2019-20. The coal extracted from this mine is crucial for supplying coal to the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Thermal Power Station in Marwa (1000 Megawatts). The mining activities at Gare Palma Sector–III are supervised by Gare Palma III Company Limited under the close supervision of officials from the power generation company.

This recognition reflects the company’s dedication to safety, innovation, and sustainable mining practices, reinforcing its commitment to achieving accident-free operations and contributing to the overall safety standards in the mining industry.
