New Delhi, Nov 14,2023 – India’s Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh, is set to embark on an official visit to Jakarta, Indonesia, from November 16 to 17, 2023, to attend the 10th ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting-Plus (ADMM-Plus). The meeting, scheduled for November 16, will see Singh addressing the forum on regional and international security issues, with Indonesia hosting as the chair of ADMM-Plus.
Alongside the main event, Rajnath Singh will engage in bilateral meetings with Defence Ministers from participating countries. These discussions aim to strengthen defence cooperation and foster mutually beneficial partnerships.
The ADMM serves as ASEAN’s highest defence consultative and cooperative mechanism, while the ADMM-Plus provides a platform for ASEAN member states and eight Dialogue Partners, including India, to enhance security and defence cooperation.
India, an ASEAN dialogue partner since 1992, actively participates in the ADMM-Plus, with the inaugural meeting held in Hanoi, Vietnam, on October 12, 2010. Since 2017, ADMM-Plus Ministers have convened annually to enhance cooperation among ASEAN and Plus countries.
The 10th ADMM-Plus will focus on practical cooperation through seven Experts Working Groups (EWGs), covering areas such as Maritime Security, Military Medicine, Cyber Security, Peacekeeping Operations, Counter Terrorism, Humanitarian Mine Action, and Humanitarian Assistance & Disaster Relief (HADR). The meeting will also announce the next set of co-chairs for the 2024-2027 cycle. In the current cycle (2021-2024), India is co-chairing the EWG on HADR with Indonesia.
